    Description

    Study of the structure and function of chromosomes and genes with an emphasis on the medical relevance of genetics. Topics include: gene and chromosome structure and function; clinical cytogenetics; genetic, environmental, and behavioral factors in disease; patterns of inheritance; genetic engineering and genome analysis; pharmacogenomics to develop therapies (both personalized and predictive) for treating hereditary disorders; and other competencies in genetics necessary for health professionals. This course is intended for students interested in the medical field. Offered: Fall semester; OBC session 3. Prerequisiste(s): (SBL 150and SBL 151)or (SBL 152and SBL 153) or (SHL 214and SHL 215) or (SHL 216and SHL 217) or permission of the instructor. Corequisiste(s): SBL 213(excluding physician assistant and health science majors).
